‘First they ignore you, then they laugh at you,then they fight you, then you win.’Mahatma Gandhiji’s these words are deeply psychological and relevant, and the spectacular performance of the new kid in the political arena-Aam Aadmi Party(Common man’s party) in Delhi election is proof of Mahatma’s understanding of human psychology. AAP was the object of mockery to everybody for its unconventional approach to politics, opponents mock and fight them, tried their best to malign and root out the party by tricks,crooks and through violence, because they scented the honesty that AAP represents is going to be dangerous for their very existence.
Media has come
out with lot of adjectives as ‘political Tsunami, political storm’ etc, to hail
the victory of AAP,but I feel it is a victory of love,peace and truth over
hatred,treachery and communalism.For a party that is barely two year old, this
victory itself is a huge step and first in the history of India, they achieved
this without any communal polarization or minority appeasement, but with a
passionate and devoted youth who are prepared to fight for a genuine
cause-liberate India from the corrupt system. For them it is a second freedom
struggle from corrupt politicians and beaurocracy. And after Gandhiji’s freedom
movement, perhaps the first time India might have witnessed such an enthusiasm
among people, had he been alive, Bapu would have felt proud of those warriors
of truth.
I
cannot help but likening Delhi election to Kurukshetra war of *Mahabharata, a fight of
Dharma(good) against Adharma(evil) where*Shakuni of BJP, Amit Shah was
masterminding the ascendancy of the party to the throne by deception,lies and
media manipulation. PM Modi and all his cabinet team were active in the
battlefield with personal attacks against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, though
the party countered this toxic political culture with its new brand of positive spirit and hope.
Unlike
in the past, today money and muscle power or an invincible superman(better not
to speak of his fetish for designer clothes, expensive shoes and watches)alone
guarantee the election victory, BJP might have learned this lesson at the least.
AAP, on the contrary, brought lot of positive aspect in the electoral politics.
People seem to have more aware of their right, many young people who are
passionate about change and dream of a better tomorrow, got attracted to the
new experiment. I have never seen such an election in India, even in Kerala
where people are considered politically more conscious. While standing at
Canaught Place, heart of Delhi, on the last day of election campaigns, the
dedicated young volunteers of AAP who had come from different parts of the
country, inspired me to dream of a better India and a better world.
